Krakow, Transylvania and back to Warsaw
Bloody have loads of work at the moment, I've been off the booze for 10 days now.. that's 6 days longer than my record. Well, I've given it up for a couple of months.. or at least that's the plan. Too much heavy partying is paying it's toll, the old DT's were in a bad way. Feeling much better already.. it does however mean that I won't be very prominent at parties for a bit.
At the end of April, I went down to Romania with Sylwia, taking advantage of the "Romania Special" offer which offers cheap tickets (it's about 60 quid return... Warsaw-anywhere on the Budapest-Bucharest line).. there's a direct train from Krakow to Bucharest which I never knew about. Anyway, we were supposed to leave on the Sunday but I read the information in the train station wrong.. and it happened that there was a train arriving from Krakow at the same time as one leaving. We were waiting on the wrong platform and the voice on the tanoy was to distorted to understand. Bollox!! Had to wait until the next day and lost a bit of money on the reservations.
We left the next morning, down to Krakow.. the train didn't leave to Bucharest until the evening.. so we had the whole day there, it was raining and having been there about a millions time before, we opted to just go to the bars. Starting off in Kazimierz and finding our way to the Old Square, where we ended up in some bar offering Warka for 3.5zl or Zywiec with a free sausage for 5zl. It was called Protest or something like that. A few beers in to our stay there and Lucasvegan (Lukasz from Gdansk) also appears there with some of his mates, so we go downstairs and have a beer or twelve.. then Lukasz goes to do his fireshow, I go insane on Florian Gate - telling some Aussie guy that I am the King of Kielce and that that's how I knew he was Australian, Sylwia disappears into some park, so I go to buy some beers and join her.. then it's offer to the train station, I am a bit tipsy now and somehow manage to fall in the gap between the train and the platform, crikey.. it was a pain in the ass to get out of with a backpack on, Sylwia was fuming (and later sympathetic), so no help from her! Great! Manage to climb out just before the train gets moving but I bruise my side in a really nasty way and fuck my leg up, not to mention rip my trousers and cover them in diesel or oil or something black!
The trip down to the Slovakian border was quite good fun, a bit of romance ;-). After that it was a hungover and fucked up sleep down through Slovakia and Hungary, we forgot to buy anything to drink (apart from beer) and there was nothing available to buy on the train. Bollox again! I was dozing about 11am, only to be woken up by loads of shouting "Occupado, Occupado!!" and people running around, thought that maybe there was a fire or something.. so I had a look what was happening and it was about 10 romanians (still in Hungary.. I think Szolnok), loading a platform full of goods onto the train. As the train only stopped for a few minutes, there was some seriously hardcore loading going on. Sooner or later an old woman asked if she could put about 20 of these enormous bags filled with heavy items in our compartment.. no problem, until I found out I had to do it haha. Christ, it's not the best hangover cure in the world.. however she gave us two Red Bulls for our help which was a gesture my hangover appreciated! Turns out they were bringing loads of food, washing powder and brands of things that were expensive in Romania from Hungary (I thought it would be the other way round but there you go).
Spent the evening in Sighisoara, since I'd only ever spent a few hours there before. Nice place, bit dead but good for a day. Then moved on to Brasov and spent most of the days in the mountains.. good times over all. I still think that Bella Musica, is the best restaurant in the world.. insane dishes, huge portions, good service, free palinka, free nachos, you can choose your own songs to play and it generally costs no more than 12 euros for 2 people including beer.
Anyway, I'm back in Poland now and my parents are over, so I've been doing a few things with them. I'm off to Kazimierz Dolny tomorrow and Wilanow Palace for the first time on Monday. My digita camera zoom needs to be repaired though, since I dropped it a few weeks ago at the insane party in Trojmiasto.
